With hunting season finally here, I thought I would share my pack essentials.

This is the basic hunting gear that I carry with me in the bush. I also always carry some sort of food in the form of energy/protein bars and a packed lunch. My Cabela’s Elite Scent-Lok Scout Pack also has a built in hydration system for carrying water.

Forgotten in the photo is also my Bear Grylls Fire Starter (pictured below).

Hunting gear in my pack:

  1. Black Rack rattling system
  2. Field dressing gloves (nice for keeping blood off expensive outerwear)
  3. Butt Out tool
  4. Hand sanitizer wipes
  5. Compass
  6. Lengths of paracord (shown here in bracelet and clip-on form)
  7. Assorted Buck knives for various dressing and survival needs
  8. Headlamp
  9. Garmin eTrex GPS
  10. Hand warmers (also great for warming feet or electronics)
  11. Whistle
  12. Rope
  13. Assorted game calls (swap in and out depending on species I’m hunting)
  14. Heat-A-Seat cushion
  15. Compact size binoculars
  16. Game bags
